Nintendo is partnering with Mojang and Microsoft to bring the imaginative worlds of the Super Mario series and Minecraft together. For the first time ever, players will be able to fend off blocky Hammer Bros. and Dry Bones the same way they do Creepers and Zombies. The update goes live on May 17th to anyone who already owns Minecraft: Wii U Edition, free of charge. The update will be automatically included in the retail version of Minecraft: Wii U Edition when it arrives in stores on June 17th of this year.

Due to Minecraft’s late arrival and questionable dismissal of the Wii U’s gamepad, some Mario love appears right in store for fans of the series playing on Wii U. Finally Minecraft players on Wii U have something to warrant the purchase on the hardware over any of the other versions out in the wild. Does this Super Mario pack pique your interest to revisit Minecraft on Wii U?

The update includes:

  • 40 new skins for characters (in the form of Mario and his friends) and enemies (such as Hammer Bros. and Dry Bones)
  • A Super Mario-themed pre-made world
  • 15 new tracks of Super Mario 64 music
  • Super Mario item textures
