Another Tuesday, another PSN Store update, and another PSN Pick(s) article to help you sort out the wheat from the chaff. As has been the story for the last few weeks, there are a large number of games dropping this week (25+), but only a few I am keeping my eye on. What are they? Let’s take a look…
Infinite Air with Mark McMorris – PS4 OR Snow – PS4
I really want a new snowboarding game. SSX Tricky is still one of my favorite games of all time, and while the latest entry in the series was fine, we have not had a snowboarding game on the current generation of consoles yet. Which one am I going to pickup? I am not certain yet. Infinite Air is a retail title while Snow is a F2P game with a Founders Pack approach. If I can try Snow for free, I may do that, and if it does not fill the need I may see what Infinite Air has to offer while I wait for reviews to come in. Either way, we have gone 3 years with no snowboarding games that I can recall, and now we will have 3 in about 5 weeks.
Tethered – PSVR
For full disclosure, I am currently finishing up a review for this game courtesy of a code provided by the developer. With that being said, this game is fantastic! An easy to learn but difficult to master strategy game, Tethered has you helping guide creatures called Peeps as they work to reclaim their homeland from evil. This is easily one of the most complete experiences on PSVR to date, and while it may not be the killer app to get everyone into VR, if you are an early adopter I would encourage you to check this game out.
Yomawari: Night Alone – Vita
It is October, so that means I have to play some horror games as we run into Halloween. Yomawari might not be a day one purchase for me due to my backlog, but this is a game I have been following closely since it was released in Japan last year, and I was excited when they announced it was coming to the West. The premise is pretty straightforward, you play as a young girl searching her town for her missing sister and dog. While most people seem to have written off the Vita, I am glad to see experiences like this still finding their way to the platform.
A couple interesting things to keep in mind this week:
The Tomorrow Children (which has gotten really rough reviews) is now available as a F2P game.
Episode 1 of Minecraft: Story Mode is currently free on PSN. I am not sure if this is a permanent demo situation or if it has an end date, but might be a good way to dip a toe in and see if the rest of the game interests you.
That is it for me this week. “What?!” you likely exclaim. “No Titanfall 2? No Skyrim Remastered? No World of Final Fantasy that you keep reminding people about?” Nope. I am certain all of those games are great, but I just am looking for different things right now. So, what are you picking up this week? Why am I wrong to be overlooking the group of games I just listed? Comment below or chat with me on Twitter!
