So it begins. Sony seems to be treating the first quarter of the year like most folks would expect them to treat the last quarter of the year. If you look at the lineup of exclusives launching in the next three months it is kind of mind-boggling. Granted, not every game is a AAA release, but there is a little something for everyone on the…Horizon. But before we get the that juggernaut in a bit over a month, there are a lot interesting of interesting titles to check out along the way. What does this week have in store? Let’s take a look…
The Flame in the Flood: Complete Edition (PS4)
I have mixed feelings on survival games. I enjoy the concept and the depth of gameplay they have. I do not like that I am usually pretty terrible at them. The Flame in the Flood offers a couple compelling tweaks on the formula. One is that you are traveling down a procedurally generated river that challenges you to maintain your raft as you travel, but also give the appropriate attention to resting and gathering resources. The second tweak that appeals to me is you have a dog companion! As someone who loves dogs and grew up camping along rivers and lakes, the setting of this survival game appeals far more to me than others have, and I look forward to checking it out. (Yes…I know the video is the launch trailer from the Xbox/Steam release, it was all I could find!)
Gravity Rush 2 (PS4) – Out Jan. 20
Kat is back! Gravity Rush on Vita was a fun, though flawed, game. I loved the characters, world, and idea of the game, but sometimes was frustrated by the controls. Messing around with gravity is going to result in some challenges when it comes to character orientation and making sure you get to where you want to go. When Gravity Rush 2 was announced, I was a bit surprised that there was no Vita version, but I am looking forward to playing the game on a larger screen with a DualShock 4. I was hoping the Gravity Rush Remastered that is on PS4 would be part of PS+ prior to the release of Gravity Rush 2 (I never quite finished the first game on Vita) but since that did not happen, I plan to jump back in and finish things off prior to jumping into Gravity Rush 2.
That is it for me this week. I am pretty happy to only have two games on the list this week as next week is pretty packed and it is going to be challenging to make the list reasonable, especially with how many full-retail releases there are. Is there anything I missed this week? Are you looking forward to Gravity Rush 2? Comment below or hit me up on Twitter!
