Only one more Tuesday left before the year is over, but the games continue to trickle out as we reach the new year. Unsurprisingly, the titles released this week (and I assume next week) are a bit more niche. However, just because my wallet is almost wrung dry due to the busy fall and ridiculous number of sales there have been on the PSN, I still have a couple titles I am interested in checking out this week. What are they? Let’s take a look…
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (PS4, Vita)
Every once in awhile I want to sit down with a platformer and just remember the simpler times in games. Shantae seems to fit that bill. Take an interesting character and combine it with using your hair as a weapon, a funky soundtrack, and a great art style means this game may be perfect to curl up next to the fire with as I watch the thunderstorms we are supposed to have this weekend (I live in Iowa, it is almost January…that seems wrong). I have only seen this game being played on PS4, but I have not heard anything bad about the Vita version, which is likely where I will play this one.
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier (PS4)
I usually do not put episodic games on my list. Not because I do not play them (I play most of them), but because I consume my episodic games like I do my television shows: binge. However, I wanted to bring The Walking Dead up as there is no doubts I will play this, and I may not wait for it all to come out. As a fan of the comics (but I have never watched the TV show) I enjoy what TellTale does with these games. The first one is pretty much universally loved, and I liked the second one more than most people. Michonne is the low point of the series for me (I count 400 Days in with Season 2) but I still enjoyed my time with it. So, needless to say, I am looking forward to this installment and how much our previous decisions matter for this season (especially with the different endings for Season 2).
Wild Guns: Reloaded (PS4)
I rarely talk about the price of games, and have been on the record multiple times saying I would be ok with games costing more. Every once in awhile though, a game comes out at a price point that causes me to take pause, and Wild Guns: Reloaded is one of those games. Granted, it looks like a lot of work went into remastering this game as the visuals look pretty slick and new features were added including characters (one of which is a dog, so that is awesome) and a new level. From what I remember though, Wild Guns was a pretty short game (I feel like it can be beaten in under an hour), but if you like score chasing (I do), there is a lot of replayability to this game. I am not sure if this will be a day one pickup for me at $30, but I will definitely be keeping a close eye on it.
That is it for me this week. There is still a ton on my plate to play, and if it were not for pesky Overwatch continuing to eat up hours of my play, I might be able to actually get through some other games. Anything of interest for you this week? What are you going to be playing over the holidays? Comment below or let me know on Twitter!
