The fall gaming season is upon us with two huge mainstream releases bolstered by a couple of strong PC ports. In reality, I’ll be passing on this week’s releases for now as I wrap up Uncharted Lost Legacy, and continue with Destiny 2 and NBA 2K18, but this is a great week for gaming on PlayStation.
Always Sometimes Monsters
I’ve played very few games on Steam, but Always Sometimes Monsters intrigued me enough to give it a try, and I’m glad I did. In this side-scrolling, pixelated adventure game, you’re a down-and-out writer who sets out on a journey to win back the love of your life before she marries someone else. It’s an interesting story, packed with consequences and I can’t recommend it enough.
Echo released earlier this year on Steam. Created by former Hitman developers, which sees the main character — En — explore a space station named Palace in an effort to bring someone she loves back to life. It’s partly a stealth game, with some open areas where you can’t avoid confrontation. Every action you take while in the light is recorded and can be used by echoes against you; movements in the dark aren’t recorded. The concept sounds really interesting, and the game has had decent reviews.
The Evil Within 2
I’m not as much of a horror gamer as I was when I was younger, but The Evil Within intrigued me from the start. In this sequel, detective Sepastian Castellanos descends into the nightmarish world of STEM in an attempt to save his daughter Lily. And nothing is more terrifying than Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. (Educator acronym joke)
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War
I remember very little about the story of Shadow of Mordor, the precursor to this week’s heavy hitter. Mainly, I remember having a blast running around the bleak Lord of the Rings universe, wiping out Orcs and manipulating the Nemesis system. Those memories will eventually get me to dive into Shadow of War. In this one, you’re again confronting the Dark Lord Sauron and his Ringwraiths (which I thought happened the last time, but oh well.)
This week’s sales are focused on PSVR, though there are games included in the sale that can also be played on PS4 or elsewhere. There are also some great deals on Devolver Digital games. Here are my sale picks for the week (All prices are PS+ prices):
- Resident Evil 7 ($29.99, on sale from $59.99)
- Race the Sun ($2, on sale from $9.99)
- Volume ($6.80, on sale from $19.99)
- Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number ($7.49, on sale from $14.99)
That’s all for this week. Don’t forget that GT Sport is also getting a demo this week, which is only available for a limited time.
This week, I’ll be gaming Uncharted The Lost Legacy, Destiny 2, NBA 2K18 and SteamWorld Dig 2. What’re you playing? Comment below!
