If you’ve been a listener of the PSVG Podcast you’re well aware of my love for the Hot Shots Golf series. It is one of my favorite PlayStation exclusive franchises and I’ve been eagerly awaiting news on Hot Shots Golf on PS4 ever since it was briefly shown at the 2015 Tokyo Game Show. Well Sony has finally provided an update for HSG, at least for those planning on playing the game in Japan.
Hot Shots Golf for PlayStation 4 in Japan:
- Releasing August 31, 2017.
- The Standard edition will include a 20th anniversary commemorative course as a pre-order bonus.
- A digital ‘Course Collection Special Pack’ will include 2 commemorative courses and additional courses post launch, a cat costume and premium cart.
I am still somewhat hesitant on this new flavor of my favorite golfing game. I worry that the move to custom created characters might lessen the charm the franchise has had for so long but that will remain to be seen on how creative we can be with character creation. Also I worry that the focus on broadening the appeal with fishing, carting, and multi-player could sour the longstanding incredible Hot Shots Golf formula. Even with those worries though, I’m very much looking forward to getting my hands on this game to find out exactly how right or wrong I am. Here’s hoping we get some news on a Western release at E3 which is just under a month away.
I wish Sony would release Hot Shots Golf 3 via the PS2 classics collection out in front of the up-coming Hot Shots Golf PS4 announcement. It still is very much a great golf game and it might generate some buzz and interest out in front of this next-gen release.
